Perhaps, we’ve all experienced that time in our life when we’ve browsed over our Facebook photos and feel disgusted at our own face. Maybe because you dread your face caked up in foundation that’s too light for your skin or your cheeks drenched in bright pink blush? Whatever the reasons may be, you know that you’ve been in a horrible makeup disaster.

However, there are still some mistakes that many of us are completely unaware of and probably still doing it every day. What are these makeup mishaps we’re talking about? Read on and find out.

  1. Applying Foundation with Flat Brush

Although this isn’t necessarily wrong, applying foundation with a flat brush can cause streaks and is not enough to thin out the foundation and make it look natural. The best way to apply foundation, making it look like real skin, is with the use of synthetic brush or duo fibre brush. Use the brush to buff the product in circular motion into the skin for a flawless finish.

  1. Using Bronzer to Contour

Bronzers tend to look quite shimmery and orangey to lend that sun-kissed look to the skin. When used as contour, the face can look muddy instead of sculpted, which contouring is aiming for. For face contour, use a matte bronzer in grayish undertone and make sure to hit the right spots—hallows of the cheeks, sides of the forehead, and jawline—for a believable definition.

  1. Matching Your Eyebrow and Hair Colour

Unless you aim for a mannequin-like look, never match your eyebrow with your hair colour. Naturally, our eyebrows have completely different shade than our hair. When on the hunt for the perfect brow pencil, follow this rule of thumb: For lighter hair, go one or two shades darker; for darker hair, go one or two shades lighter.

  1. Applying Mascara in a Single Upward Stroke

If you want to make your lashes look thicker and longer, a bit of effort goes a long way. Oftentimes, the biggest mistake women make is to apply a coat of mascara in one upward swipe, which doesn’t maximize the capability of the product. To achieve that vavavoom lashes, apply two to three coats, doing a few pulses of zigzag motion from the base of the lashes to the tips every time.

  1. Layering Powder to Set the Makeup

It doesn’t only make your face look dry and cakey, but also clogs the pores. While this is a popular way to make makeup last, another way—and a much better way—is using a few sprits of finishing spray. These makeup setting sprays are designed to control shine and keep the makeup intact to last all day.

With the makeup industry continues to evolve, these common makeup mishaps may change overtime. Who knows, what might be wrong today might be the most beautiful technique tomorrow. Just don’t be afraid to experiment and see what looks best on you.
